What is a Prostodontist?
A Prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed a 3-year residency program earning a certificate and master's degree in Prosthodontics. Prosthodontists are specialists in dental implants, cosmetics (esthetics), TMD concerns, crowns, bridges, dentures, complex dental reconstructions, and have in-depth knowledge of dental literature, materials and treatment techniques.
Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). When multiple specialists are involved Prosthodontists are the leaders of the dental team, as they are trained to organize and coordinate everything from simple to the most complex dental treatments.
Patients may seek care of a Prosthodontist directly. However, in some circumstances, depending on complexity or the need to develop a more detailed treatment plan, a patient may be referred to a Prosthodontist to have those needs addressed.
The addition of Dr. Suranyi to the Merrimack Smiles team ensures we can continue to provide our patients with the quality care they deserve no matter how complex.
